Opening of Spiderman 2

Opening of Spiderman 2

Spiderman 2 opens with him falling through the sky, they follow his movements through New York using a tracking shot; a city is a conventional setting for an action movie as the public feel they will be saved by their ‘hero’. This is effective as it shows Spiderman to have powers/abilities and is supernatural. Therefore this highlights to the audience that this is a superhero fantasy film. The tracking shot is combined with music and the sound of the traffic to add excitement, followed by the sound of Spiderman’s webs.
The audience soon realises that this is an action movie because there is a lot going on, and there seems to be a dangerous villain on the loose as you hear through the police radio. The medium shot of the angry man screaming whilst driving dangerously through the city shows he doesn’t care about the public and they are very vulnerable at this moment in time.
The driver notices that the police have caught up with them and overtaken them, they start to understand that they are soon to be caught. The cars pursuit the truck through chaotic traffic and is shown though some medium shots so you see the whole scene. The driver then realises the severity of his actions and is in a bid to not get caught, so he’s picks up more speed and crushes the polices car with the truck.
As Spiderman swings through city, the public start to cheer with happiness, this shows they see Spiderman as there saviour and it really grips your attention. The shot then quickly changes to Spiderman landing on the truck and a side shot showing the driver and the window. Spiderman then pops up at the window and the driver’s facial expression is shocked and he carries on driving dangerously. It is an engaging opening because it creates suspense and tension through the fast-paced action shots.
