Problems encountered and solved

Problems encountered and solved

Previously in our filming we have encountered relatively minor problems. Likewise our first problem was the place in which we was filming as this produced initial problems with the group and variety of filming. As certain positions in the area did not suit the film that we wanted to produce, therefore we changed the placing of our filming and placed it in a better filming environment.
Also other problems such as the lighting of are new filming place that was in a house caused problems within the filming and this caused filming to not match the genre chosen. We needed more dark lighting to create specific eerie situations building up tension in our movie. Therefore we turned all the lights of in the house and filmed in the dark, but also having specific torches and lamps to produce a certain amount of light in specific areas.
Furthermore we also came across the problems of the script and how it did not fit in with either the atmosphere we wanted to create or the stereotype we wanted to place on each character. Therefore within our filming we used the script as a guild line and changed specific text where needed to fit in with the film. Likewise language between the two characters sitting on the sofa sounded too much like set up convocation and not a causal conversation, therefore we changed the words to make it sound as if the conversation is a causal and they are not following a script.
Also we encountered problems such as our group couldn’t meet up all at the same time. So that with our final filming experience we had to leave one person out who couldn’t film. This formed the movie to be completely changed, but still stay on the same lines as we planned to just without the certain actor. This problem that we encountered actually caused our film to be better as it made us use certain camera angles that we couldn’t use with 3 people in our film, also it made our film a lot shorter and have the same time length as it should do.
At our first experience of filming we came across problems with the camera as it didn’t work, this small problem was solved the next day as we got another camera of the teacher.

After all these problems we still came out on top and created a relatively good movie with good filming aspects attached to it.

Influences on production

Influences on production
Hush
Hush is a 2016 American horror thriller film directed and edited by Mike Flanagan, starring Kate Siegel, and written by both. The film co-stars John Gallagher Jr., Michael Trucco, Samantha Sloyan, and Emilia "Emma" Graves. The film includes dramatic tension through and it involves only one venue that is located at a house. There is only one villain that causes a thrilling atmosphere throughout, firstly through wearing a mask and not knowing who it is, and forms a scary mood to the audience. Also the weapons used in the movie increases the thrilling experience when watching, being the perfect mood for the audience due to the genre.
Our movie

This movie has influenced us to create our movie as we want to create the same thrilling atmosphere that hush does. We used specific aspects from the movie Hush to create our movie. The villain from hush has been used in our movie as he formed the movie to be thrilling, likewise we have got specific weapons like the villain from hush did so that there is a more dramatic approach to the fighting scenery. Also in our movie the villain will also be wearing a mask to create the fear of the unknown in the atmosphere. Another part of the villain that we are using is that he is solo and does creates the thrilling atmosphere by himself, this allows there to also to be the fear of the unknown as at certain points of the movie we do not know where the villain is creating eerie situations. The settings of the movie in hush has also been used in our movie as the venue of a house is a huge aspect in our movie to form the main characters to feel like they are in a comfortable environment, but then its interrupted by the villain, which makes there be a great more deal of tension.

Filming Experience

Where we filmed

What we need to film next
When we plan to do this

Filming experience

In our filming experience I and my group including Jackson, Phil and Joe got together at a specific location to try and figure out what filming techniques we should use along with where we should film this. Are get together contributed certain issues and understandings about how we are going to record our film.
We firstly met up at a park called Alexandra Park at the start of January and filmed 3 shots including a scene where the victim character was being followed using a tracking shot, forming the audience to believe that the camera shots were from the villains vision. As well as we filmed normal recordings of a basketball match to produce a normal environment for our film.
In our recordings I believe that what went well was that we got a good feeling for the camera allowing us to try new shots and investigate what shots would generate the best effects prior to our horror genre. Furthermore it has made us realise that the location picked was not the best location we could off used forming us to change the location to a more enclosed environment. Therefore we changed the location to a house, where we will be able to do more lighting effects and better camera angles. We also have found out what characters are playing which part and got a feel for the characteristics that will be given to each individual.

Now we are going to film are movie in a house and we are going to use the first use of filming to start off the movie to intrigue the scary atmosphere. We plan to be doing this in the February holidays, to give us enough to treat each shots and recordings with care and produce high quality scary footage.

Actors

Actors

Joe Parrish is an actor who plays the role of one of the gang members. He has a stereotype of being the clever one, therefore knowing what the best ideas are throughout the film. His knowledge makes other actors jealous but forms other actors to follow him as a leader. He comes from a tough background and seems to thrive when it comes to making plans. Being smart causes him to be calm in situations, but also has a viscous side when it comes to being with the group.

Jackson March has a stereotype of being dopey, he tends to follow whoever takes charge in the group and never takes lead when it comes to situations. Being dopey causes the group to become annoyed with this character and cause situations to become a lot worse than they should be. He is the funny character bringing slight humour to the horrific movie, but can be vicious when others are.

Connor Darcy aka Phil, is the stereotype of being the group leader, he helps the group in serious situations

We included the shots that we wanted to include in our film such as close up, long and medium shots. Likewise the close up shots of characters faces to represent the expressions shown in our film, in connection to our genre this mainly shows scared and thrilling expressions to show the audience the scary feelings. The long and medium shots of the setting is to set the scene that the characters are alone in the house. We also included the jumpy enigmatic scenes of an object falling of a table and making a loud noise causing a thrilling moment that create tension and suspense for the audience as they want to know who and what caused this object to fall. We have included several close-up shots of a door handle moving to create a slow moving suspense and enigma codes.

Once we put all the shots into adobe premiere pro we added dip to black fades and several dissolve transitions. These were effective in showing how one scene cuts to the next scene. However, our footage has only made 30 seconds worth of film. We were quite surprised at this and we need to plan several more shots and scenes to add into the film. We plan to add another 3 minutes of filming to improve our recordings.

New House Location and Narrative

We decided to change the location and script for our film. This is because when we planned to film our narrative the weather was really awful. Therefore, it was affecting the quality of our filming.

As a result, we decided to film in Shea's house as our filming will not be weather dependent. The setting of the house would also be effective as we can create a creepy atmosphere using low-key lighting. The narrative is going to involve three boys in a bedroom chilling out and one the main protagonist goes downstairs to get a drink. He does not return when the other characters call his name.

This causes one character to go downstairs to look for him. Jacka suddenly hears a murmur in the cupboard so he goes to open the door. There is then a close-up shot of Phil tied up. This will create enigma codes as the audience will want to know who did this and where did they go.

Hopefully we will be able to adhere to the horror genre conventions through our new setting as we can create mysterious lighting, use props to create suspense and the house setting will be relatable. Audience members will find our film realistic and it will create even more tension and enigma codes.
