Epsom Downs Woods

Epsom downs

•Epsom downs would be a great location to film a thriller/horror because there this is an open field along with a forest. The open field would be a perfect location because we could film a tracking shot of the main character running away from the villain. This would show an isolation with the character because we would film it at night; where there would be no strangers in the background. The woods be a perfect location because the setting is all enclosed from the trees. This would make the scene sinister as we could have the main character getting chased through the woods. The open field and the forest contract each other because the scene would go from a large open space to an enclosed forest but the character would feel isolated throughout.

Alexandra Park Pavillion

•Pavillion

•Alexandra Park PAV is a perfect location for the film will are making, which is thriller. It has ery feel to it as there is an abandoned building and an open field surrounded by trees. This is a good place to film because we need a place to have an abandoned hut which we can use to a good use. This location is perfect for camera angles and shot as it is so open that we could have long shot, close up and tracking shots. The film will be film in the dark this means the mood and atmosphere will be good as there are only street lights as a source of light. Its perfect location for isolating a character as it is an abandoned field which is going have a group of teenagers in side of it.

Roseberry Park Alley Way

•Roseberry park alley way

•The slim alleyway draws tension and present a mood that the character based in the alley way has no way of getting out. Furthermore the darkness brings thrills to the audience and inherits the feeling that the movie is scary. Due to the fear of the unknown in the darkness this has a connection to my genre (horror thriller) as it presents a unnerve feeling to the audience because of the enigma code of who is in the darkness. As well as this setting is set in a place that contains not many people, this means no one can help are characters in the alley way. There also is trees hanging over the alleyway forming a sense of being trapped in this confines setting.

MoodBoard

How they link?
All the setting pictures link to our horror movie because they were our first ideas to film our movie. Two of the setting pictures have open fields. This is because they represent an isolation as there is no people around. This would be good for a horror movie as it sets the mood for an eerie/isolated atmosphere. The other two setting pictures show an enclosed path surrounded by trees. This is a good setting for a horror movie because it represents that there is only one path to take and will to an unknown setting. This could foreshadow to the audience that the only path to take will to to death.

The two mask pictures shows to the audience that the evil character will always be unknown, this suggests to the audience that this movie will be mysterious. Also, this makes the evil character look more sinister because the audience don't what or who is behind the mask.

The weapon pictures shows the audience what the sinister character could use to kill/hurt the other characters. This also shows the horrific thoughts that the evil character is thinking, if he would use a machete to hurt normal civilians.

Mood board update: We have decided to not use the gun and just use the knife as this is a more realist weapon in england. We chose to film our movie in a house instead of the forest as it would make the audience feel more claustrophobic and enclosed. We chose to use a balaclava instead of a mask because most robbers use balaclava, so this would make our movie seem more realistic.

Friday 13th

Friday 13th

The film starts of with a non digetic ery screeching which give a sinister feeling to the audience, this set the tone for what is about to happen. Mist from the forest give the effect that there is an evil spirit in the air. The non digetic music shows what ever the two men are going to do is a bad idea; the music is used to build up tension as it gets quicker and quicker. When the camera focus on gasoline it sends a enigma code out to the audience as they are unsure what they are going to use it for but they know its a bad idea. A tracking shot is used to show the movement of the two men, we can tell the are in a rush to do something and as the scene goes on by various camera shot such as close up to show there facial expression the front one is looking not very scared but in a rush whilst the man in the back looks terrified for what they are going to do. An long shot is used to show the settings and the film shows they are in a grave yard and by their movements and what they are doing, they are looking for a grave. Ery sinister music suggests what ever is in the grave is not worth opening it and as he opening it huge amounts of dust comes out this shows something dark and old is inside it. An extreme close up of the eye implies the dead man soul has been woken and that when he gets out of grave and puts on the mask it sets the tone for the rest of the film

Lights out

lights out

The opening scene starts with the man walking in a ware house on his own with little spots lights and he suddenly here something this immediately suggests to the audience something bad is going to happen. As the man turns around he sees a sinister figure, the lights go off this set a frighting atmosphere for the audience members. The lights come back on and the sinister figure is much closer this keeps the audience on the edge of there seat. A tracking shot is used to show the characters movement when he is running it shows he is panicking and scared this is supported by a close up of his face which clearly shows he is scared. Non diegtic music is used to build the tension for example when he is running; but also when he trips over and find a massive scratch on his leg which came from the dark figure following him, this is an enigma code suggesting how did the thing following him do that to the man when it wasn't following him.

Scream

scream

This horror film starts of differently to the quite a lot of horror films, it start of slowly like a normal film, no build up or tense music just a phone call which last about twenty seconds as the women hangs up but the man called back and calls back numerous times eventuality finding out the man on the phone has been watching her and has here boyfriend. Tracking shots and close up shows what type of emotion she is in which is upset and scared. the enigma code is about how this weird man decide to plan a game with a women he doesn't know and if she loses her boyfriend dies. Dramatic slow motion is used to build up the tension for example when Casey comes face to face with the man with the mask on.

Sinister

 Sinister

The opening scene starts with black scene to give a sinister feel so the audience feel nervous as they are unable to work out what happens next. Suddenly a dark, old and ery film from long time ago of four people get hung from a tree this is an enigma codes. Bags over the head and hung up to a tree suggests that what has happened was prepared. The four people which look like family are raised in the air this gives a sister look and feel to the film. The opening scene is like a big enigma code as the audience members are unsure on what is happening and how four people got hung on a tree brunch but this means they will have to watch and find out; this makes audience most intrested in the film as they want to find out what happens next. The diegetic sound shows the film being played was made years ago as you can here the tape rolling. Also it has the backing music to give the effect something is going to happen to the people.

Kidulthood Opening

Kidulthood

The lack of sound at the start creates a dense, sinister atmosphere that makes the viewer tense. When the graphics change a non-diegetic sound effect interrupts this silence, creating a distorted, rough feel to the start of this film.
The non-diegetic soundtrack of urban music creates a tense, mysterious atmosphere which adds to the drama of the scene. The urban music represents the film to be gritty and the people as thuggish and underclass. The gets the viewer ready for the start of the scene.
The diegetic ambient sound of playground kids, laughing, screaming and talking creates a realistic scene.
The diegetic mode of address represents them as informal. By using slang words such as 'proper grimy' and 'you get me' creates the image that these people aren't very educated.
A diegetic sound bridge has been used here. The two girls are talking and the first shot is a group of school girls, then the next shot is two girls having the conversation and the last shot is back to the group of girls.
Diegetic sound perspective has been used greatly throughout this whole scene. The focused characters voices have been dialogues whereas people in the background are much quieter. This creates a sense of realism.
The diegectic sound of the drill is used throughout, appearing at random times which distorts the fluidity of the opening scene. it gives a gritty, rough edge to the film making it more intriguing to the viewer and creates enigma, questioning the importance of the drill.
Dialogue used by one girl is confident and portrays her as a extrovert character. The fact that most of the sound in the opening scene is her shows that shes quite an important character. it gives a better understanding of the character.

The genre of this film is romance. I like this film because it tells an incredible story and the way in which it does so is very clever. I also really enjoyed how the film switched between the young and old generation. The ending is really unexpected and everything that's happened in the film starts to make sense. It also portrays how it used to be in the olden days therefore it gives us an insight on it.

Conjuring Opening

The Conjuring opening scene Analysis
https://img1.blogblog.com/img/video_object.png
The conjuring opens with a close up of a creepy looking doll and off screen sound introducing the main characters talking about the events that took place leading up to this moment. This straight up highlights to the audience that the film genre is horror. The close up shot of the doll slowly zooms out and creates a medium shot, this makes the audience feel like the problem is getting bigger and bigger. The diegetic sounds makes the audience feel a part of the experience making what the girl is saying seem more real. The crack in the doll's eye represents that there's something wrong and that something bad is going to happen. The fact we can't look the doll straight in the eye makes the audience feel like they can't trust the doll and that the characters shouldn't trust it either.

The medium shot of the doll after the characters reveal that they gave the permission for the spirit to move into the doll symbolises that the doll is the source of all the strange things happening later on in the film. The close up shot of the girl has low key lighting which predicts that something bad and mysterious is going to happen to her. This also creates an enigma code as the character says "but then, things got worse", this makes the audience feel intrigued and unsure as to what happened, it makes the film more engaging and makes the audience want to carry on watching. This then turns into a medium shot of the door showing us the two girls walking in and finding a piece of paper on the floor saying "miss me?", the writing is in red which signifies danger and makes the audience feel on edge. We then see an extreme long shot of the doll in a dark corridor, the darkness creates a sinister atmosphere. We then see a close up shot of the dolls hand holding red crayons. This makes the scene even more sinister as suggests that it was the doll who wrote the note.

The girl then walks into the room and sees smashed photo frames and red scribbling everywhere, there are also flashing lamps which have

Inception Opening

Inception opening scene analysis
https://img1.blogblog.com/img/video_object.png

At the start of the clip there is a very dramatic score playing which features lots of stings. The score helps to build tension before the audience get introduced to the protagonist. As the music stops there is a Hyperbolic sound of waves clashing against rocks this helps set the scene the audience know that the film is set in the present day. The audience is then introduced to the protagonist who seems to have woken up after being washed up on the shore. Additionally there is the sound of children playing and an eyeline match is used to show the protagonist looking at the children who are probably just figments of his imagination. The interior of the 'villain's' base is a very traditional Chinese looking building which goes against the typical conventions of an action film. The props that are featured are 21st century style weapons which once again goes with usual conventions of an action film. The old man talking to the man that came out of the water creates an enigma code as we have no idea who those characters are and why they are there. This questions the audience.

Dawn of the dead opening two minutes

Dawn of the dead
The dawn of the dead opens with a close up shot on the door and tracking shot on a specific photo and bedroom. This therefore presents an enigma code off who is behind the door. Furthermore the tracking shot inherits an eerie atmosphere, informing the audience that the film is a horror genre. After that match on action is used on the door swinging open. This shot has a dramatic effect on the audience, setting a frightening but intriguing mood as the enigma code is answered, through a dark figure of a little girl stands in the doorway.

A diegetic growling sound, is followed by a close up of the little girls deformed face. A mise en scene of blood applied to her face is also shown, in which these properties engage a unsettling and agitated atmosphere towards the audience. Furthermore, this also sets an enigma code of how is this innocent girl now a deformed scary possession. As well as, all micro elements are taken away as the girl then sprints in the direction of her parents. The silence then intrigues horrendous sense of fear throughout the audience, contributing the aspects of a horror genre.

Therefore it shows all the typically difficult stages a teenager might go through, in which this is because it is the most interesting point in life. As well as the genre has many stereotypical conventions connected to a teenager.

horror codes and conventions

Horror codes and conventions

For a horror genre the target audience is aimed at the male target and mainly at the teenaged years, the narrative content of the film is predicable, in which you are able to predict what happens next but this causes suspense and tension. As well as there is a clear binary opposition where there is clear good characters and clear bad characters. Furthermore there is a high use of low key lighting making the film very dull and dark, which is in connection to evil and horror. Also there is a dominant representation of gender where the male is usually the villain and the women is usually the victim. Teenagers and young adults are usually the characters place in a horror film due to their low common sense and high determination. The camera angles mainly consists of close up shots, point of view and low angle shots which all inherit a scary theme. Lastly they also use hand held camera shots to form audience identification.

The action genre has technical codes and conventions to build up the tension and suspense which are main aims allocated in action genre. The technical codes and convention are camera shots and techniques; for example low lighting are based on an evil character and light lighting is placed on the good character in an action genre. Also in an action film it has symbolic codes and conventions to build up an enigma code; clothing and colours, therefore allow people to know that it is an action genre.
