The lack of sound at the start creates a dense, sinister atmosphere that makes the viewer tense. When the graphics change a non-diegetic sound effect interrupts this silence, creating a distorted, rough feel to the start of this film.
The non-diegetic soundtrack of urban music creates a tense, mysterious atmosphere which adds to the drama of the scene. The urban music represents the film to be gritty and the people as thuggish and underclass. The gets the viewer ready for the start of the scene.
The diegetic ambient sound of playground kids, laughing, screaming and talking creates a realistic scene.
The diegetic mode of address represents them as informal. By using slang words such as 'proper grimy' and 'you get me' creates the image that these people aren't very educated.
A diegetic sound bridge has been used here. The two girls are talking and the first shot is a group of school girls, then the next shot is two girls having the conversation and the last shot is back to the group of girls.
Diegetic sound perspective has been used greatly throughout this whole scene. The focused characters voices have been dialogues whereas people in the background are much quieter. This creates a sense of realism.
The diegectic sound of the drill is used throughout, appearing at random times which distorts the fluidity of the opening scene. it gives a gritty, rough edge to the film making it more intriguing to the viewer and creates enigma, questioning the importance of the drill.
Dialogue used by one girl is confident and portrays her as a extrovert character. The fact that most of the sound in the opening scene is her shows that shes quite an important character. it gives a better understanding of the character.
