Inception opening scene analysis
At the start of
the clip there is a very dramatic score playing which features lots of stings.
The score helps to build tension before the audience get introduced to
the protagonist. As the music stops there is a Hyperbolic sound of
waves clashing against rocks this helps set the scene the audience
know that the film is set in the present day. The audience is then introduced
to the protagonist who seems to have woken up after being washed up on the shore. Additionally there
is the sound of children playing and an eyeline match is used to show the
protagonist looking at the children who are probably just figments of
his imagination. The interior of the 'villain's' base is a very
traditional Chinese looking building which goes against the
typical conventions of an action film. The props that are featured
are 21st century style weapons which once again goes with usual conventions of
an action film. The old man talking to the man that came out of the water creates
an enigma code as we have no idea who those characters are and why they are
there. This questions the audience.
